PROCEDURES FOR CARRYING OUT A GOOD RESTORATION

Depending on the state of the furniture, you proceed by following one step or another, but in general, this should be the order:

The restoration report consists of:

  1. Date the piece, focus on the period, style, country, type of manufacture (marquetry, gilding, carving, polychromy...)

  2. Identification of the materials that it is made of (solid woods or veneers, drawers, hardware, marbles, bronzes, fabrics...) and sizes.

  3. Observation of the state when it reaches us, deterioration, previous restorations, modifications...

  4. If necessary, test the materials that it is made of in order to act safely afterwards.

The Restoration Project consists of deciding which steps are required and the order in which they should be carried out.

After making the Report and the Project, is when the Budget is made.

Once accepted, the Restoration begins.

Let's imagine that we receive a deteriorated piece of furniture, with an attack of xylophages, loose structure, damaged finishes.

PROCEDURES:

1st Disinfect

2nd Consolidate

3rd Disassemble

4th Unglue

5th Glue again

6th Clean/Strip

7th Polish

8th Dye

9th Plaster

10th Varnish

The order of these steps can be changed, very often when you start manipulating you find surprises, sometimes bad and sometimes good! This alters the Restoration Project, always to achieve the best results.
